Phase 1 'Making a good start'
Phase 1 recognises the importance of developing children's speaking and listening skills. The more words children know and understand, the better equipped they are to make a good start on reading and writing.
In this phase, children are encouraged to talk a lot to increase their stock of words. Stories, rhymes, drama and songs are used to fire children's imagination. This is encouragement for them to use language.
PARENT TOP TIP: Use stories, rhymes, drama and songs with your children as much as possible.
