What is 'Letters and Sounds'?
Letters and Sounds is a programme that is used to teach phonics in some schools. If your school has asked you to look at this website, it is because they are using Letters and Sounds and thought that it would benefit you to know a bit about it.
It is taught in 6 different phases and is used primarily in Early Years and Key Stage 1 settings.
The synthetic phonics approach taught in Letters and Sounds enables children to read and spell words, developing their fluency and confidence.
The links above will give you information about each phase.
Parent Top Tip: Ask your child's teacher which stage your child is working on at school. This will help you to help them with their phonics and make sure that your help is at the right level. It will also benefit you to familiarise yourself with phases that they have already completed, so you know what they should already be able to do.
